When Gianna wakes up on a cloud, she is disoriented yet fascinated. She thinks she's only dreaming until she gets a storm of paper planes—"They're thoughts of people who remember," a man on another cloud tells her—each pleading for her not to leave. The man tells her these planes are the key to get out of there, and while she thinks it's hard to believe, she decides everything is worth trying if it meant finding her way back home.

Before anything else, don't you just love the cover? Look how pretty it is! It would be really, really nice to have a print copy of this book, yeah? Haha!

Anyway, on to my review...

Plot
Paper Planes Back Home is a heart-warming read about love, holding on, and second chances. It revolves around the lives of 4 main characters and how each of them faced their own battles and eventually, won over them.

It kind of reminded me of Blink Once and If I Stay (Gayle Forman), but only because of the comatose part and 2 of the characters being in the limbo. I actually enjoyed reading this kind of stuff, as it emphasizes the value of a person's life- the will and the choice to live. But Paper Planes Back Home gives a refreshing take to the story especially with the idea of paper planes bearing the thoughts of the loved ones praying for the patient's recovery. I was only 3 pages in but the book already caught my emotions. It was a quite a whirlwind of emotions but it was an enjoyable read.

Paper Planes Back Home is also a short read, but even so, I liked how everything was tied together in the end. I love happy endings! Haha!

I also liked the world-building of the limbo part. I don't think I've ever read something like it before. Thus, it made my reading more entertaining.

Characters
Written in a third person perspective, I was able to know (though only partly) the characters and relate to them. I liked how they are all connected and how each of them developed throughout the book. I would prefer Gianna as Filipina though, but other than that I think the characters are all well-written.

Writing
The writing style of the author is okay. The flow of events and the relationships between characters are smooth. I was not totally amazed by the writing style but I did enjoy my reading experience.

-o-

Overall, I do recommend Paper Planes Back Home. If you're looking for a one-day read, but an entertaining one, then this book is for you. :)
